Seed and Salmon

I asked the seed what will you become?
It said I don’t know what but I know I will
And it soaked up each promise from the rain and the sun
And poured faith into a journey that had just begun
I asked the bird where are you going?
It said I don’t know where but I know I will
And with wings and heart beating it crossed land and sea
And soared toward a place it was destined to be
I asked the caterpillar why will you evolve
It said I don’t know why but I know I will
And it shed a form that could crawl for one that would fly
Because you cannot achieve what you're unwilling to try
I asked the salmon when will you return
It said I don’t know when but I know I will
For there are streams to swim and tides to taste
Before I’m back to lay eggs that will soon take my place
I asked myself who will I become
I don’t know who but I know I will
