Remember the Horizon

ilanamccullough

You do not have to be the best version of yourself.

You do not have to be 100%.

You do not have to be calm.

You do not have to be happy.

You do not have to feel full or confident or carefree.

You do not have to try to force yourself to feel any way that you have not been feeling.

You do not have to be a hero to anyone.

You do not have to be everything, or anything at all.

You can just be.

And as you are being...

Can you feel the wind against your body as it blows even the darkest, densest clouds across the horizon?

Can you trust the shine of sun will warm you again after each frost, after each fear, after each fall?

Our lives, our loves, our levels of joy are not linear.

No one is experiencing what you are feeling in the same way you are feeling it.

But everyone is feeling something.

There will always be ups and downs, giving and taking, coming and going…

And you are more than all the thoughts and all the feelings and the happenings at any given time.

You are more than what you’ve done.

You are more than what you’ve thought.

You are more than what you’ve lost.

You are everything under the sun and beyond it, and like this life is temporary, so is every climate, both within you and outside of you.

You are gaining strength after each storm and clarity with each calm.

You are heaven on earth, and while sometimes it may feel like hell, remember the horizon and the promises it brings.

Remember the stillness between each breath.

Remember the comfort of your embrace.

Can you give yourself the grace that you would so willingly give to someone else?

If you catch yourself on a train of thought headed in a direction you don’t want to be going, please remember there are options, detours, alternate routes, and there is no set schedule.

Remember your journey is different than everyone else’s because you are different than everyone else.

Remember that sometimes being planted feels the same as being buried.

Take what you need in order to fuel yourself toward the version of you that was always meant to be but takes time to grow into.

The empire you will inspire will not come to be in just a day.
