The Green I Love
the green I love is
ever-changing
collage of forest
leaves elated
ivy vines
clouds of moss coating
rocks and roots
transformed by rain and
soaked by sun
that’s the green I love
the green I love is
wet grass gleaming
shining meadows
doused in misty mornings
from seed to stem to
“look how you’ve grown!”
that’s the green I love
the green I love
it does not envy
the shapes or shades of
anything it’s not
it’s quiet in its confidence
it grows
it knows
that differences are divine
that’s the green I love
the green I love
it does not fear
not solitude or sickness or
ceasing to exist
because nothing is
destroyed – it is simply
changed
and so much else can come from green
ambers and autumns and aubergine
that’s the green I love
the green I love is
not one shade
it’s olive
fern
it’s lime
it’s jade
it’s deep summer valleys
and bold winter pines
it’s glorious in both light and night
it’s gardens growing
then seasons slowing
that’s the green I love
